Two Days Birdwatching in Kiskunság National Park

On May 24 we started our trip from Kecskemét. The weather was sunny and warm, a real spring day. Our destination was the northern parts of Kiskunság National Park, around Apaj, Bugyi and Kunpeszér.

First we visited the grasslands near Kunpeszér. Here we saw bee-eaters, a cuckoo, red-backed shrike, lesser grey shrikeMontagu's harrier and a tawny pipit.

After that we went to the area near Bugyi, where we were lucky to see some great bustards.

Later we visited the wetlands around Apaj. Here we found many birds: spoonbill, black-winged stilt, squacco heron, pygmy cormorant, penduline tit, bearded tit, ferruginous duck, and red-crested pochard.

On the second day, May 25, we explored the southern parts of Kiskunság National Park.

We started at Tiszaalpár, where the wetlands near the village gave us wonderful birds: purple heron, squacco heron, pygmy cormorant, whiskered tern, white-tailed eagle, honey buzzard, saker falcon, and spoonbill.

After that we went birdwatching in the Pusztaszer Nature Reserve. There we saw black stork, white-winged tern, common ringed plover, avocet, and black-tailed godwit.

On the steppe areas nearby we also saw roller, bee-eater, and stonechat.
